Dining Room and Living Room Furniture
The two most important rooms in your home are the dining room and the living room. These are the two rooms that you and your family will spend the most time in. So when picking furniture, spend a little more time to pick out the right furniture. Make sure that everything looks and feels right to you.
The center piece for the dining room is your dining table. There are many different types of dining sets to choose from. Your choice will depend on the number of people sitting at the table at any one time, and the space you have in your dining room. You also need to think about where you want to place the dining set.
If you have little space, you can place the table against the wall. This allows for space for walking. This arrangement is ideal if you are living in a small apartment. But bear in mind that if you do that, you are reducing the number of seats by at least two. For some families, they choose this arrangement because they don’t really need all the 6 seats. If guests arrive, they can easily shift the dining table to the middle of the room.
If you wish the table to be in the middle, you can choose a round table. A round table can easily accommodate 5 to 6 people, depending on the size of the table.
Once you have decided on the table, it’s time to choose matching chairs. While it’s true that most dining sets come with matching chairs, you may still find that the chairs are not to your liking. In this case, you will need to buy separate chairs that match with the dining table. When choosing chairs, pay more attention to comfort.
As for the living room, the center piece is obviously the sofa set. Usually, when guests arrive, their attention is attracted to the sofa. So be sure to choose something that fits into the overall design of your home.
Young couples tend to choose more modern looks. For instance, you tend to find L-shaped sofas instead of traditional looking leather sofas. The cushions also have a tendency to be of brighter colors (like red, yellow or orange).
Mature couples tend to go for classic or contemporary designs. Rattan or teak furniture are popular choices. Such furniture looks simple and elegant, and can last for many years. They also require very little maintenance.
The issue of durability should always be at the back of your mind. Do you intend to use the furniture for just a few short years, or for the long term? For instance, if you live in a rented apartment, more affordable furniture that is made from synthetic rattan or plastic may be ideal.
For the sake of consistency, most homeowners will choose just one theme, and then find furniture that will match that theme. That way, you can use similar furniture for both the living room and the dining room.
